As I began living independently three years ago, I resorted to frozen meals, then to DoorDash and fresh dinners from Amazon Fresh and Trader Joe’s - but they were boring, and I was concerned about the salt, the sugar, and the cost.
Even so, my excuses for not cooking prevailed.
Maybe thinking of cooking as a hobby and sharing recipes with other readers will make it more fun. What do you think?
I'm looking forward to your recipes Janice as I have also become a reluctant cook. My son uses his air fryer all the time and loves it so I think I should try it. Way to go taking on something new.
I have a love/hate relationship with cooking and baking. I don't like eating out or bringing in. Too much salt, sugar, additives - and I feel terrible after eating genetically modified Frankenfood. I cook really simple meals when I'm home alone. When my husband comes home he cooks or sometimes I "attempt" cooking something new for him to try. I have a 50/50 success rate.
I don't like the air fryer or a VitaMixer... or an Instapot. I supposed I'll have to trying make one of the three work. I'm looking forward to your sharing recipes, it'll be fun experimenting. Please be specific, haha, I sometimes have issues with following directions!
I’m retired and have been thinking about getting an air fryer, like you I always thought cooking was just more work at the end of the day when I got home from work. But now, after having a stroke, I’m thinking more about how I eat, so I would love some ideas on recipes and healthy meals.
Hi Judith, You might like the air fryer, you can cook a whole meal in there - in about 1/2 hour. I also use a crock pot - making soups and then freezing the leftovers. I bought Souper cubes on Amazon and freeze individual meals in them.
During the lock down I bought myself a ninja foodi, combo air fryer, pressure cooker, slow-cooker. That really helped. Soups and stews, air fried chicken. Lots of online recipes.
Jo, Great point. There are lots of online recipes. I can even look up how long to cook something in the air fryer online. It's a big help! I love the crock pot/slow cooker. I can start with a can of soup - like split pea - and add anything I want to make it a healthier and tastier meal.
Welcome to the wonderful world of cooking. A gift that nurtures oneself, honoring the earth and maybe get community together! I invite you here in my kitchen https://www.makepurethyheart.com 🫶
Hi, I have my eye on the recipes in your newsletter. I truly never thought of cooking as being sensual, romantic, or lovely - that could change my desire to cook in and of itself.

I am learning to like the air fryer. You can cook a whole dinner in a short period of time.

I hear you Patti.
Tnanks Janice. This is great. Posting healthy recipes can help us all eat better. Food is just as important as medication in keeping your health.
I totally agree .
