Sharron, My pleasure. I loved Bartle. It spoke to me of a different time - one that is missing today. Your travels are amazing and I love reading about them as well.
"Our passion and purpose are the inspiration that keeps us going." Oh yes, Janice! At my age (really really old) I feel my purpose has been successfully fulfilled by a life time of service in education. Now I can focus on pure passion. I wake up every morning ( thank all the gods ) get a cup of coffee and sit down to write! Finally I can just focus on fiction, and not worry about having to sell it. If anyone finds 🍁Leaves -- a tiny needle in the huge Substack haystack, I hope I can entertain them, make them laugh or break their hearts. It is what I live for now that my "work" is done. Thanks for confirming for me that this is GOOD! And thanks a thousand times for your shoutout for Bartle Clunes in this post. It means the world to me to have your vote of confidence, my friend. Thank you for always inspiring us.
Great article, Janice. I just retired at the end of the year and became a substacker immediately. Even though I have written a lot in the past, it was sporadic and I was not that passionate. Now, writing about Personal Transformation has become my passion. That's why I like to read your newsletter. As a matter of fact, I just posted an article today about how passion is the fuel for motivation in a series I've been writing. So, your article was very timely. Appreciate your thoughts.
Love your blog, Janice. Ah, yes, service to others has always been my purpose & passion. It is fun to see the many new, unique opportunities emerge now that I’m retired from my teaching career. I have found that we can continually use the gifts God has given us in a lot of new ways. For example, I just produced & directed M*A*S*H at the theater, raising $25,000 for two non-profits for children. Thankful for new opportunities daily. It’s helping me age...
Sadly some people are lost without their jobs; no passion for anything (like my brother.) He has the option to continue working past retirement and chooses to do so saying, "I wouldn't know what to do." Fortunately, that's not a problem I have!
Good advice (as always) Janice; thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much. I think that was true for Dan as well. We worked after retirement for ten years but when his job ended he lost his reason for living - it was his identity. Like you - that was not my problem either. So many ideas, so little time.

Thank you Cork. I want to check out your stack. I think it is passion that makes a difference.
Lovely piece Janet.

Hi Jan, I loved reading about the M.A.S.H. show, such fun. I agree about the new opportunities and helping us age.
