Hi Michelle, I had not considered dementia either - we thought we were doing all the things to stay healthy. It is the hardest of decisions one can make. My husband did not admit he had a problem, he refused to move, so we had to find the home and place him without his input. The first place we chose was a home run by a qualified person who housed dementia patients, we visited, talked with the owner, told her the story - he lasted there one day - she couldn't handle him. The second place was a memory care facility and they did care for him, but I wanted to talk to him daily and know how he was doing regularly - they agreed. True, it was during the pandemic, but they did not follow through - even though I asked repeatedly.
