It is February 2nd, 2021 - Dan died fourteen days ago. I‘ve been taking care of him for four years. Now, what will I do?
I’d always wanted to write - I’d dabbled with a website and online courses but never made a serious effort. It was different now; my heart had something to say. My son introduced me to a platform for writing and encouraged me to try it. I started with three subscribers - my children and me. In that first article, I said:
How do you want to spend the rest of your life - aging well or going slowly downhill until death? It's a choice, you know, but it does take commitment. As a senior citizen, you can sit on the sofa, eat pizza and drink beer, watch sports or talk shows hour after hour and let time drift by, or you can pull yourself up by the bootstraps and challenge yourself by finding a new hobby, learning a new language, exercising, or joining a club.
Three years and 865 subscribers later, I am writing my 206th article. The newsletter focuses on aging well in various ways. Soon, I plan to offer email coaching for a limited number of caregivers who could benefit from additional support.
The newsletter continues to be a part of my healing and growth process as I learn to live independently at age 85.
This article is mostly a thank-you to every subscriber for their continued support and care and to every friend I’ve met along the way.
I plan to write the newsletter for as long as possible and explore different areas and topics.
P.S. Thanks for reading Aging Well News! If you know someone who might like this article, please forward it or share it below.
If you want to contribute to my work, consider donating to the Alzheimer's Association. This link takes you to their website. The choice is yours.
