On Feb. 2nd 2021, I wrote my first article. 3 years, 206 articles, and 865 subscribers later, I am here to say thank-you to every subscriber for their continued support and care and to every friend I’ve met along the way.
Well done Janice. It recently crossed my mind that my “get up and go seemed to have got up and left”. Obviously in your world, your “get up and go got up and flew to a brand new level”. You are an inspiration.
Congrats Janice on such progress on your Substack as well as your healing process. Also, thanks for your appreciated content over the past couple of years. 🙏🏻
To all of your caregivers who need a little humor, I suggest reading “CAN’T WE TALK ABOUT SOMETHING MORE PLEASANT?” By Roz Chaz. This book may be a great smile when you need it most. As a caregiver with sometimes absent family members, it is my best friend at times.
My email was screwed up for a couple of weeks this past month. I had no time to get it fixed. It was so great after I got it fixed to find your last few articles just waiting for me.
You go, girl! I am so glad that I stumbled upon your newsletter. I have shared before that I was a caregiver for my parent when I was in my late teens/early twenties. That role lasted a very long time. That experience near about did me in. So, I understand how vitally important it is for caregivers to receive support. And that's why I am so happy that you are writing this substack. There are so many people who are benefiting from your work.
I also like reading your substack because I did not have the benefit of watching my own mother age well. So, it is instructive and just pleasant to have an example of someone who is aging very well. Looking forward to reading more from you!
Hi, I am so pleased that you are enjoying the newsletter. I bet you could write a book on your caregiving experience. It is such a challenge especially for someone so young.
Happy birthday and congratulations! Your thoughts and your advocacy are so needed, so important. I'm glad to see you're going to offer services to others and share your wisdom and your knowledge with them.
Hi Robin, Thank you so much. That is my hope - that others will learn from our experience and mistakes. In retrospect, I would do things much differently.
Thank you Cali. I think of you so often and send my best thoughts your way. We both know about those unwanted new chapters in our lives and the adjustments we have to make.
I’ve not been on SubStack the 3 years you have, but I too am 85 and have enjoyed doing a part of my aging via my writing. (See Reflectionsat85). Thank you for your posts and believing you have something worthwhile to contribute.
Oh, happy day! Congratulations to you in following through on your promise, Janice Walton. You have created something wonderful here. So many people have been helped - both with concrete, practical strategies and with moral support. I commend you for aging gracefully and WELL!
Hi Sharron, Thank you so much. You know well the struggle this has been. OAN, I have thought of the article you sent me - it is so true and so relevant. Thanks again for thinking of me.
Hi Patricia, In my wildest dreams I could not have imagined this outcome. The newsletter has been a lifesaver for me and the subscribers a complete gift.
