Aw, Janice, this is lovely. I love it when you bring in your wider family and your road trips and your work. You have so much to write about. But I have to say, the older I get, the more intensely I believe that life is ALL about family. And if we don't have one, we must build one from friends and strangers.
I so agree - the older I get, the more important family is. My-sister-in law is on her own except for me, but she has built a lovely family of friends.
I am already looking for a house with a guest house in the event anyone wants to come live with Granny as a young adult. Close enough to Mom and Dad, yet their own little place. Dare I dream :)
Absolutely - dreams do come true. What a cute ideas. When we moved to Washington for awhile, I was hoping the grandsons would come visit often - they didn't, but it was 600 miles. On the plus side, the older one did with us while he went to college for four years - so that was special.
Not every grandmother has the opportunity to know her grandchildren as well as I have, and I cherish every minute of those years. Read more . . .
It’s nice to be a close family

How lovely to have much of your family near you. And what a wonderful story about your grandson.
I totally agree - they have been such a joy in my life.
It would be wonderful.
