My main intention for 2026 is to prioritize my creative life. I have a novel to finish, short-ish essays to write, art to make. Everything else (checking email, etc.) must come after the good stuff...but...I struggle with procrastination and often put off the good stuff (fear of failure, perfectionism, etc.). Would love to check in once in a while (accountability is good for me...)
Intentions vs. Resolutions is a great way to look at making a fresh start. I like the idea of guiding principles. Mine for this year are essentially the same as previous years: eat healthier & move more. Also, to continue being a lifelong learner through reading, study, and experiential experiences. I invested in various art supplies and want to do more with those. Lastly, I want to grow my own blueberries this summer! 🫐
Hi, it seems like you have a great foundation. I find great pleasure in doing art, and recently discovered a surprising side benefit. My daughter and I were painting almost every afternoon, acrylic painting on canvases. The only problem was not enough wall space to hang them or closet space to store them. But a friend of hers wanted the pictures to hang at her work and at a retirement community, so we gave many of them away - and that felt good. I enjoyed doing them, and others could enjoy them too. Blueberries - sounds like fun - and something different.
Hi Sharron, Thank you. Yes, I did. Every once in a while, the pictures turn out the way I hope, and that was one of them. My daughter and I were painting every day, but there is only so much wall and closet space, so we've slowed down a bit.
Janice — I like your idea: intentions vs resolutions. I never thought of it that way. I’m going to try living more fully instead of thinking about dying suddenly. And I also intend to support young people more than I criticize them. Thanks for the new way to look at the new year. {{Hug}}
Hi Jan, That's the shift I'm focusing on as well - living the moments I have more fully - rather than worrying about every little ache and pain that comes along. Some experts refer to it as having a longevity mindset - shifting from just lifespan to life and health span.
The issue is particularly on my mind because we have a 94-year-old family member who hasn't been aware of what we've been learning. Today, she goes to dialysis three times a week. She fell and broke her back recently. After three days in the hospital, she is bedridden, basically confined to a bedroom in her son's home.
That's not the life I want for myself. So, I intend to make daily choices that invest in my future vitality and enable me to stay active and engaged for as long as possible.
Ready or not, 2026 is almost here. I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions, as such. They last about two weeks, and poof. Do you?

Hi Lynn, I like that and really hadn't thought of it - having an intention to prioritize my creative life. Hmmm! Food for thought.

Janice! Did you paint that boat picture!? Wow. I love that yellow sky! You a getting quite masterful, my friend. Show us more!
I don't make resolutions, but I have two focus words for the year : ACCEPTANCE and GRATITUDE. I try to stay mindful of that
