Oh, Janice ~ I can relate. I fell in love with the lighthouse on Sanibel Island, Fla. many years ago. My husband & I walked there to see the sunrise on many vacations -- matter-of-fact for over 30 years. Much of it was destroyed several years ago by Hurricane Ian, but the Beacon still works. I am so hoping to get back to feel its warmth before something happens to one of us. When you lived in Ohio, did you ever get to the Marblehead Lighthouse? It is beautiful too.
Hi Jan, Yes we did, but that was a long time ago. A side note - that you might appreciate. When you mentioned Marblehead I thought of Put-In-Bay - a good friend of ours was mayor there for about six years, in the late 1990's.
Patti -- we may have a lot in common besides loving Sanibel. My daughter lives in Chelsea, MI and I write a blog about aging. I just subscribed to yours. Looking forward to reading about your journey into retirement. I’ve been retired from teaching for 20 years. It’s a wonderful stage of life.
Hi Jan, I subscribed to you also. Your site looks really nice, great job on the visuals. I'm really interested in reading about aging, and looking forward to reading your work. I had to look up Chelsea! Not too far from where I am. At the moment I'm yearning for a trip to Sanibel, we're in the middle of blizzard conditions. Thanks for subscribing, let's grow into aging better together!
Hi Prue, How perfect. I always thought of Dan as my rock - the first time I went back to the lighthouse - the thought that came to mind had to do with him taking on a different role - a guiding light.
Hey! That's my neck of the woods, Janice. Every time I drive by that harbor lighthouse now or have lunch at the Crow's Nest I think of you. A beautiful memory. I like your family stories.
Imagine our surprise when we learned that it was the Walton Lighthouse. Read more: https://agingwell.news/p/the-walton-lighthouse.
We have over 120 lighthouses in Michigan. Stop by for a visit, you won't be disappointed!
I have always loved lighthouses! Thank you for sharing a beautiful story.

Oh yes, Put-in-Bay is still the happening place on Lake Erie. 😃
I love Sanibel Island. I hope you get back there for a visit too, heck I hope I get back there too, before anything happens!

Lighthouses are so romantic, symbolic and in many ways, are a metaphor for life - shining light in the darkness.

When we go to SeaBright Beach and the lighthouse, we typically have brunch at Aldo's. Have you ever eaten there?
You bet! Plenty of times. It is fun to think of you hanging out in my neighborhood, Janice.
Beautiful memories are treasures to behold ❤️
That they are Paolo.
