When I realized that my husband's memory was not going to recover after his hospital stay, I was unprepared and had to find resources quickly.

What a wonderful idea Janice. I am sure you have so much to give and you are right it's a two way street. Good luck.

This is wonderful Janice. If I have anyone needing guidance about caregiving I will send them to you, it's a MUCH needed service!

Hi Donna, That would be super! I know it would have helped me during the caregiving years, so maybe it can help others.

Two comprehensive, valuable resources, Janice. Thank you. And your new offer for one to one counseling is so surprising. That is quite a venture for you -- and you may find it as helpful for yourself as for your clients! Congratulations on taking on this new endeavor.

Hi Sharron, That's the way it works sometimes - counseling/coaching is a two way street - in that we learn from each other. Thank you!

Thank you so much for sharing this helpful info. My sister is currently caring for my mother who has dementia. Do you know of any resource that would help my sister get financial help for her caregiving? Thank you again!

Hi Diane, I don't specifically, but you might check the AARP site - they cover a lot of topics - maybe like this one: https://www.aarp.org/health/brain-health/dementia-resource-guide-digital-edition.html.

Thanks for the resource. I didn't find anything so far, but I've heard that it's very difficult to get any financial help from the government for caregivers. Considering that my sister is a LPN level nurse, it seems incomprehensible, but I've searched so much already and came up empty handed. We live in Illinois, and maybe it's just more difficult to find in my state. I'll keep trying. Thanks again for reaching out to help others with this issue.

Hi Diana, I read discussions about the need to compensate family caregivers, but it seems like a long road before it happens, I fear.

My husband’s son who is ill will be staying with us for a month or more. (Actually I’ll be in Cincinnati visiting my friend in her nursing home, so my husband and daughter will be helping him.) I don’t know how much help he might need, but thank you so much for these resources. 🙏🏻

So, your husband's daughter will have some caregiving strategies in mind already, perhaps. But I can be resource if necessary.
