Last week, my daughter and I flew to Buffalo, New York, stopping at the Atlanta airport just after the hurricane blew through to visit my grandson and his wife and see their new home in Lewiston. It was a long but uneventful flight.
Lewiston is a historical area. We walked to the monument commemorating the Battle of Queenston Heights, the first major battle of the War of 1812, where the US invaded Canada. I had no idea.
We visited the delightful town of Niagara on the Lake in Canada. They live five miles from the border, so it was a quick trip. The four of us walked along the Niagara River and visited the town filled with shops and flowers. I was enchanted. Yes, that’s my grandson and me.
We had an exquisite dinner at a local Inn and Vineyard. My choice was a perfectly prepared and presented roasted chicken dish.
The next day, we went to a Harvest Festival in downtown Lewiston and a nearby orchard to pick apples. It was like going back in time - so peaceful, uncrowded, and slow-paced - such a nice change from California's crowded, noisy festivals and events.
In 1958, Dan and I went to Niagara Falls on our honeymoon.
66 years later, I returned on a beautiful day—the falls were as gorgeous and powerful as ever. Memories of that young couple and all they had accomplished together flooded my mind.
On Tuesday, we flew back to Atlanta and then to Salt Lake City to visit my son and his family for two days. This is my sixth trip to Utah. We relaxed, ate a lot, and learned about their new business venture. While everything went smoothly and we had a grand time, eight days of travel and five airports were a lot. The cats were glad to see me when I got back.
On a personal note, each trip allows time for reflection and insight. Seeing my family was a wonderful gift; we had great discussions and made new memories. I sorted out new ideas for writing and aging well along the way. More about that later.
P. S. I’d love to have you share the Aging Well Newsletter with others. I want to bring the lessons I’ve learned through my years of life and caregiving to as many people as possible. More than anything, I want to continue to expand our community of readers.

I love the last photo of you in this post. And I love Buffalo, so I'm happy you had an opportunity to visit, and especially travel across the country. Sometimes it's a simple share like this that cheers me up while I'm waiting for my next adventure.
