Great plans, Janet. I would love an exploration of this: My physical condition is declining simply because of aging. How can I find a balance between maintaining my independence, i.e. managing my health issues by myself, and knowing when to ask for help without burdening someone else with my problems? Sometimes I feel so alone with my "symptoms" - even though I have family who would gladly offer help!
Hi Sharron, Yes - that seems to be the challenge - finding the balance. I have certainly noticed a difference in my physical capability this past year, and I so want to maintain my independence - even though friends and family are very supportive - sometimes overly so. I know that feeling of aloneness.
Thank you Janice - this is an important topic to discuss. As a personal trainer and an aging young at heart woman I have been studying aging and working with the aging community for many years and see the need for your articles. I hope your article helps many.
I’m especially interested in the topic of identity in our later years. How can we create a positive identity when being old is such a negative idea in our culture?
Hi Alan, That is certainly a valid question - one I ask myself all the time. I'm 87 years old - and as much as possible, I refuse to buy into what "they" say and do what I can do to the best of my ability. My goal is to prove "them" wrong.
Very interested in the gut connection to everything, having lived with irritable bowel syndrome since my late twenties. I manage it, it’s a lot easier being retired and able to say no to everything. My dogs are very forgiving.
A focus on maintaining connectedness to the outside world. Try a different activity (age appropriate for you) perhaps find enjoyment from new people/friends made thru the activity.
Hi Debra, while part of me wants to hide under the covers some of the time, your point is well-taken - connectedness is key: new people, new ideas, and new activities.
Hi Janice ~. I'm especially interested in the a & c under #1. Looking forward 2026. Heading to Sanibel Island, Florida in February. Am going to enjoy sitting on the beach in my old lady bathing suit contemplating Life. Ha! Take care! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!! May 2026 be the best year ever.

Hi MaryRose, That's my hope as well - that my experience helps others along the way.

Hi Paula, I had to find out more about it - my gut has not been happy with me lately.
