I recently read the article It’s Your Life which included a video that said:
In each of us lives our potential inner authority who intuitively knows what is right for us, where to go, what to do, who to be with, and how to live our life.
After reading that quote and one by the author that said, “It’s your life. Stop waiting for someone else to show up with the key,” I thought about that statement for a long time.
One definition says that being the director of your life demands you take action - not wait for somebody else’s permission or approval but act on your sense of things, ideas, and plans. Sometimes those ideas don’t work as planned, but you learn and move forward.
Years ago, I met that inner authority (my inner guide, intuition, whatever name you choose). Fortunately, I listened when it said,
Dan is the one for you.
My parents had a different choice in mind.Get a Ph.D.
Many asked, “why bother?”Work after retirement.
There was nothing purposeful to focus on.Raise your children differently than your parents raised you.
I wanted a different relationship with my children.
But, too often, I ignored my inner voice because it suggested different ways of being and doing than what family, friends, and experts said. I thought they knew better. Who was I to disagree?
However, the time has come. I’m ready to own the directorship of my life. I have the power to choose.
When Dan died, I was at a decision point. My inner guide insisted that I move forward. I didn’t know what that meant or how I would do it, but that was the path.
The last two years have been challenging. However, I am much stronger and more confident than I was - ready to direct my life.
My plan:
Listen to my intuition - not ignore the words of others but balance them with my sense of things.
Say yes to life instead of letting fear run me.
Instead of accepting what is - experiment with solutions.
Be kinder to me and others.
As the article Permission from a People Pleaser suggests, I plan to give myself permission to do it - whatever it is.
So, that’s where I’m heading. Are you the director of your life?

Go Janice! Brilliant article and a reminder to us all to give ourselves permission to be uniquely us
I had just shut down my computer and was calling it a day when I got a notification that you just published something. My own intuition told me, ‘Wait, don’t go. Read this.’
I’m so glad I did.
Of course because my lower level ego self was pleased to see you referencing something I had written (thank you so much Janice!!), but more importantly because right NOW I need the message you wrote about.
Listening and following our inner guide, it’s so easy to forget or to simply turn away. Thank you for your wise words that have uplifted me when I’m feeling a bit torn. Thank you for the inspiration that is going to carry me through my weekend.
I think it takes a village of wisdom seekers to remind each other that we can follow our heart and soul to arrive in the very best place.
